Healthcare Apprenticeships
There are many different levels to healthcare apprenticeships. Here are some examples of the jobs within the different levels of apprenticeship.
Level 2 (GCSE)
Healthcare Support Worker
- Age 16 or over
- Willingness to learn and work
- No formal qualifications required, though some employers may prefer GCSEs in English and Maths at grades 9-4 (A*-C) or equivalent
Level 3 (A Level)
Senior Healthcare Support Worker
- You will usually need GCSEs in English and Maths at grades 9-4 (A*-C) or equivalent
- Completion of a Level 2 apprenticeship or relevant experience may help
Level 5 (Foundation Degree)
Nursing Associate
- GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or equivalent
- Experience in a healthcare setting is often required
- Some employers may also require a Level 3 qualification in a healthcare-related field
Level 6 (Degree)
Registered Nurse
- Typically requires A-levels or equivalent Level 3 qualifications
- GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above
- Relevant healthcare experience may be required
Operating Department Practitioner
- Typically requires A-levels, including a science subject, or equivalent Level 3 qualifications
- GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above
- Relevant healthcare experience may be beneficial
Paramedic
- A-levels, preferably including Biology, or equivalent Level 3 qualifications
- GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above
- Some experience in a healthcare or emergency setting may be an advantage
Physiotherapist
- A-levels, typically including Biology or Physical Education, or equivalent Level 3 qualifications.
- GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.
- Relevant experience or shadowing may strengthen the application.
Occupational Therapist
- A-levels, often including Biology or Psychology, or equivalent Level 3 qualifications
- GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above
- Experience in a care or support role can be beneficial
Level 7 (Masters Degree)
Medical Doctor
- A-levels at grades ABB, including at least one science subject, or a 2:1 or higher in a science or allied health degree
- Completion of an interview process
- Specific requirements set by medical schools and employers
